Matt Powles is the Founder and CEO (Chief Empowerment Officer) of Jaguar Strength & Conditioning. Matt was an extremely small kid as he was going into his fifth-grade year, which made his move from Virginia to Naperville, IL especially challenging. His stature made not only sports but also social situations very difficult. When high school came along, he still weighed in at just 90lbs and only 4’9” tall.  Despite loving sports Matt had already been cut from two basketball try-outs as well the football team! 


In high school, Matt discovered weights and became obsessed with getting bigger the only way he could. Matt put on some muscle which, beyond increasing physical capability, did wonders for his emotional health and self-confidence. The obsession with exercise led him to boxing, a sport Matt trained and competed in through his teenage years.


After high school Matt earned a degree in Marketing Professional Sales from Illinois State University. While at ISU he managed a chain of nutrition stores, and his interest in fitness expanded to include the nutritional component as well. He began to understand the importance and interconnectedness of having a healthy mind, body, and spirit.


After graduation Matt went to work in Chicago selling elevators and found himself managing a territory from Pittsburgh to Washington State. In search of the competition and camaraderie he missed, Matt found himself in a CrossFit gym for the first time. He walked in thinking he would be a top athlete, fast forward 50 minutes, he found himself gasping for air and finishing last. This pivotal experience proved to Matt that there is a better way to workout. Suddenly Matt knew that looking “jacked” and truly being fully fit are absolutely not one-in-the-same! 

Matt trained and competed in CrossFit for four years, but gave it up when he then realized that fitness is not a race but a life-long journey.  That there is an enormous space between simply working-out and working-out- smart. He decided there must be a better way to train and dove head first into obtaining challenging certifications, reading, studying, and traveling relentlessly throughout the country to attend endless fitness and nutrition seminars. All the while he was following numerous podcasts, of anyone who he thought had something significant to share that would help expand his knowledge base.  After years of listening and learning, studying and investigating, Matt has pulled the best-of-the-best together to create what he calls the Jaguar Method, implemented at Jaguar SC. 

In November of 2019 Matt decided to leave his sales career to commit everything to his lifelong passion of fitness. Matt founded Jaguar SC in Chicago to share with others what he has learned, not just over the past five years of study but over a lifetime of searching.  Matt’s search, as with all of us, is to find how we tap into the very best version of who we are; mind body and spirit.  He hopes you will stop by JagFit and, in this community camouflaged as a gym, join him in a fitness revolution.
